We learn to think like scientists in 1st Grade

In Science class, our 1st Grade students have become a team of scientists to discover... how plants grow!
Over the past few weeks, we have been working on a project in which the children investigate what plants need to grow healthy. To do this, we have designed a simple classroom experiment that allows us to compare different situations and observe what happens in each case.

We have planted several seeds under different conditions: one plant with light and water, one plant without water, and one plant without light. Throughout the days, the students carefully observe what happens to each one and record the results. Which one grows the most? Which one changes color? What happens when something important is missing?

Beyond planting seeds, this project is allowing us to take our first steps toward the scientific method. In 1st Grade, we don't just learn content; we learn to think, investigate, and discover. And we do this by experimenting, asking questions, comparing results, and sharing our ideas.

Future Engineers: Our AQUAE STEM Journey in 6th Grade

This term, our Year 6 students have stepped into the shoes of scientists and engineers by taking part in the exciting AQUAE STEM Project.

But what exactly is AQUAE STEM? In short, it is a dynamic educational programme designed to boost scientific and technological talent among young students. The main objective is to challenge our pupils to use their knowledge of science and technology to solve real-world problems. It’s not just about finding the right answer; it’s about learning how to ask the right questions, working as a team, and developing the critical thinking skills that are essential for the innovators of tomorrow.
Our students have been working hard and have already navigated their way through the three main phases of the project. Here is a quick look at what they have been up to:

Phase 1: Introduction - Getting Our Feet Wet
In the first phase, the goal was simple: get familiar with the project's mechanics. The students were introduced to the core concepts and the challenges ahead. They explored the basic principles they would need to understand, ensuring everyone had a solid foundation to build upon. It was all about sparking curiosity and preparing their minds for the creative work to come.

Phase 2: Construction - Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Next came the really hands-on part: the construction phase. Here, the students had to put their ingenuity to the test. Working in teams, they were presented with specific problems that needed a practical solution. This stage was a fantastic display of collaboration, as they had to share ideas, delegate tasks, and combine their efforts to build and create. It was amazing to see how they learned to rely on each other's strengths to overcome obstacles.
