We Learn to Code Through Play in Year 2!

In Year 2 of Primary Education, we have experienced some very special sessions… we have become young programmers!

Through several educational robotics lessons, our pupils have developed their computational thinking skills in a practical, hands-on and, above all, fun way.

During the sessions, we organised the classroom into learning stations, encouraging cooperative work in small groups. Each team rotated through the different activities:

  • Station 1: Programming with Bee-Bot

  • Station 2: Challenges with Jack the Mouse

  • Station 3: The Directions Suitcase with our “Monkey”

  • Station 4: Simulating routes using tablets and the Bee-Bot app

These sessions have not only strengthened technological skills, but have also fostered cooperative learning, communication and active listening, perseverance when facing mistakes, and confidence in their own abilities.

The classroom was filled with excitement every time a route worked successfully… and with thoughtful reflection when it was time to improve the strategy.

We remain committed to active methodologies that prepare our pupils to understand the digital world in a critical, creative and responsible way.

In Year 2, we continue programming our future step by step!

It feels like we are pirates!

In Physical Education, our students of 1º,2º,3° could enjoy this activity in the unit “Different ways to move”.

They felt like pirates, they had to face to different challenges and went to the pirate boat.

We could do this activity in perfect conditions because of the sport center “Jimenez de la Espada” we share with the IES.

All the students really enjoyed this game.

We learn to think like scientists in 1st Grade

In Science class, our 1st Grade students have become a team of scientists to discover... how plants grow!
Over the past few weeks, we have been working on a project in which the children investigate what plants need to grow healthy. To do this, we have designed a simple classroom experiment that allows us to compare different situations and observe what happens in each case.

We have planted several seeds under different conditions: one plant with light and water, one plant without water, and one plant without light. Throughout the days, the students carefully observe what happens to each one and record the results. Which one grows the most? Which one changes color? What happens when something important is missing?

Beyond planting seeds, this project is allowing us to take our first steps toward the scientific method. In 1st Grade, we don't just learn content; we learn to think, investigate, and discover. And we do this by experimenting, asking questions, comparing results, and sharing our ideas.

Future Engineers: Our AQUAE STEM Journey in 6th Grade

This term, our Year 6 students have stepped into the shoes of scientists and engineers by taking part in the exciting AQUAE STEM Project.

But what exactly is AQUAE STEM? In short, it is a dynamic educational programme designed to boost scientific and technological talent among young students. The main objective is to challenge our pupils to use their knowledge of science and technology to solve real-world problems. It’s not just about finding the right answer; it’s about learning how to ask the right questions, working as a team, and developing the critical thinking skills that are essential for the innovators of tomorrow.
Our students have been working hard and have already navigated their way through the three main phases of the project. Here is a quick look at what they have been up to:

Phase 1: Introduction - Getting Our Feet Wet
In the first phase, the goal was simple: get familiar with the project's mechanics. The students were introduced to the core concepts and the challenges ahead. They explored the basic principles they would need to understand, ensuring everyone had a solid foundation to build upon. It was all about sparking curiosity and preparing their minds for the creative work to come.

Class B

Class C

Phase 2: Construction - Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Next came the really hands-on part: the construction phase. Here, the students had to put their ingenuity to the test. Working in teams, they were presented with specific problems that needed a practical solution. This stage was a fantastic display of collaboration, as they had to share ideas, delegate tasks, and combine their efforts to build and create. It was amazing to see how they learned to rely on each other's strengths to overcome obstacles.

FrankensTwinning Planet

Throughout this school year students from Year 3, 4 and 6 are going to carry out the project: FrankensTwinning Planet with other schools in Turkey and Slovakia.

This project is framed in the learning situation: Is it possible to create the perfect planet? Based on the shortcomings of our planet Earth, the pupils of the participating schools will create a new planet by combining their different visions, ideas and designs. Hence, the name of the planet: FrankensTwinning.

The starting point was to introduce and present the project to our students through a motivational and explanatory video.

In order to get to know each other, students introduced themselves. Click on the following link to read their presentations.

FrankensTwinning Scientists (students) introduce themselves

We all know the importance of knowing and being aware of how to keep ourselves safe when working online or using applications. Therefore, in the European projects in which we participate with our students, we always work on such important aspects and concepts as online safety and netiquette.

Taking into account these aspects, our Year 3, 4, and 6 students have undertaken a stellar mission: to collaboratively design and bring to life FrankensTwinning Planet. Working with partner schools in Turkey and Slovakia, they've:

- Designed the planet's surface and geography using boundless creativity.

- Created unique inhabitants with their own languages and traditions.

- Designed sustainable cities.

Composed a planetary anthem expressing their cosmic vision.

Developed an interstellar marketing campaign to promote their world.

Hosted a virtual exhibition showcasing their eco-conscious creations.

Every activity - from logo design to crafting planetary customs - has encouraged teamwork, imagination and environmental awareness across borders.

This collaboration has also nurtured genuine friendships across Europe with the exchange of Christmas greeting cards with their European peers, sharing ideas through our TwinSpace forum and, finally, getting in touch via live online meetings.
