Future Engineers: Our AQUAE STEM Journey in 6th Grade

This term, our Year 6 students have stepped into the shoes of scientists and engineers by taking part in the exciting AQUAE STEM Project.

But what exactly is AQUAE STEM? In short, it is a dynamic educational programme designed to boost scientific and technological talent among young students. The main objective is to challenge our pupils to use their knowledge of science and technology to solve real-world problems. It’s not just about finding the right answer; it’s about learning how to ask the right questions, working as a team, and developing the critical thinking skills that are essential for the innovators of tomorrow.
Our students have been working hard and have already navigated their way through the three main phases of the project. Here is a quick look at what they have been up to:

Phase 1: Introduction - Getting Our Feet Wet
In the first phase, the goal was simple: get familiar with the project's mechanics. The students were introduced to the core concepts and the challenges ahead. They explored the basic principles they would need to understand, ensuring everyone had a solid foundation to build upon. It was all about sparking curiosity and preparing their minds for the creative work to come.

Phase 2: Construction - Teamwork Makes the Dream Work
Next came the really hands-on part: the construction phase. Here, the students had to put their ingenuity to the test. Working in teams, they were presented with specific problems that needed a practical solution. This stage was a fantastic display of collaboration, as they had to share ideas, delegate tasks, and combine their efforts to build and create. It was amazing to see how they learned to rely on each other's strengths to overcome obstacles.

We are absolutely thrilled to share some wonderful news with our school community! Thanks to the hard work, dedication and enthusiastic participation of our students in the Aquae STEM programme, our school has received the prestigious recognition of being named the most participative school in Spain. This incredible achievement reflects the commitment and curiosity our pupils have shown throughout the year, as they engaged in hands-on STEM activities and explored scientific concepts with genuine passion.

The award was presented to us during a virtual closing ceremony, which brought together schools from eight different autonomous communities across Spain. It was a truly inspiring event, celebrating the achievements of all the young scientists who took part. The ceremony marked a fitting grand finale to the 2026 academic year, a year in which over 2,000 students from 52 schools formed part of this exciting programme. Our pupils stood out among them all, and we could not be prouder of their effort and enthusiasm. Well done, everyone – you have made our school shine!
